Five Care Tips For Maintaining an Awesome Beard

Whether you're just starting on your beard-growing journey, or you've got luscious locks on your face already, these tips can help you have your beard looking its awesome best.

Tip One: Clean & Condition

Just like the hair on your head, your beard hair needs to be cleaned and conditioned. Your body’s natural oils can build up on your beard, as can sweat and other undesirables. So getting in the habit of regularly washing your beard is the first step to getting the healthy skin and hair you want.

Depending on your hair and skin type, you'll wash and condition your beard from one to three times a week. Curly hair tends to be quite dry and washing once a week could be plenty. On the other hand, if you have very oily skin, you may benefit from more washes.

Sweet Earth’s CBD Beard & Face Cleansing Wash includes CBD and Frankincense for a relaxing face wash that encourages balanced and healthy skin cells.

Tip Two: Apply Beard Oil

Use a few drops of beard oil after towel drying your beard but while it’s still slightly damp. Beard oil further conditions your beard and helps prevent split ends. The right ingredients can nourish and protect your skin and hair as well as moisturize them.

Try 3 to 5 drops of beard oil at first, and adjust as needed. Pour the oil into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together to distribute the oil evenly. Massage the oil into your beard, starting at the base and working your hands through to the tips.

Sweet Earth’s CBD Beard and Mustache Oil is full of powerhouse ingredients:

Castor Oil

Castor oil reduces inflammation of your skin and fills in the scales of the hair shaft, resulting in a fuller, shinier beard.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil increases circulation, strengthening hair follicles and encouraging healthy beard growth.

Marula Oil

Marula oil, from the Sclerocarya birrea tree, which is rich in protein to nourish skin and hair, is lightweight, so it easily soaks into skin and hair. As a result, marula oil helps prevent water loss, keeping hair pliant and robust. Bonus: marula oil has been shown to keep nail beds and cuticles hydrated and supple, so massaging this oil into your beard may also have a beneficial effect on your hands.

Moringa oil

Moringa oil, from the Moringa oleifera tree, is high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, making it beneficial at preventing acne. In addition, it is both cleansing and moisturizing to hair and skin.

Tip Three: Brush Your Beard

Brush your beard with a boar bristle brush or a wooden comb or pick. Brushing and combing wake up hair follicles by stimulating circulation and thus healthy growth. Good circulation helps limit the formation of dandruff as well.

Boar bristles are beneficial in that they help distribute your natural oils and conditioning beard oil through your hair evenly, creating manageable, smooth hair with a great shine.

Sweet Earth CBD Styling Balm

Tip Four: Use Styling Balm

Apply a small amount of beard balm as needed to tame wild hairs and for additional conditioning and protection from the elements.

Sweet Earth’s CBD Styling Balm includes a rich mix of oils and butters to protect and nourish your skin and hair, along with candelilla wax to add control and shine. In addition, poppy oil provides exceptional conditioning properties.

Tip Five: Trim Your Beard

Every few weeks, do a light trim before you shower to clean up strays. Check for split ends, though this shouldn't be much of a problem if you use oil.

It’s best not to trim after a shower while your beard is wet. It will be heavy and look longer than when dry, and it’s easy to trim more than you intended.

Trimming will help keep your beard looking healthy and well-kept. Beard trimmers can be easy to use and may be quicker than scissors but can cause damage to hair, including split ends. Scissors are a more precise tool, and sharp scissors are unlikely to damage hair.
